Member Since: September 2007 Posts: 0 Send Message	Could someone please help me find my great grandfather who we believe may have joined the merchant navy in Scotland sometime in the 1870s. He ended up in Sunderland in the 1880s possibly late 18870s. His name was George Cowie born around 1886. Thank you! sorry not 1886 my mistake 1856/57

The cert will give you his occupation, and more importantly his father's name and occupation...then we can find him in the censuses perhaps?
