hi,

i have a big puzzle i was hoping that you folks may be able to help me with. i have a record of the birth of a relation on the certificate it says left at hospital. now as his parents were married and he was given his fathers names (all of them) i don't think there was any problem there with taking him home. this was in 1911 before official adoptions were in place. i have searched and searched for a record of his death. does any one know if there is records available to the public for hospitals in aldershot? does any one have any ideas why they left him behind. any clues any tips i am desperate

Whereabouts on the certificate does it say "left at hospital"?

Are you certain it isn't the name of a hospital that you've misinterpreted?

If the child was left there maybe the child had some sort of illness or deformity that the parents couldn't cope with in those days.

Can't think of anything else really.

I think you would have to get in touch with the Health Authority for the area to see if any records survive for that particular hospital. It's usually up to someone there as to whether they will release records if in fact they do survive.

Maybe the poor little thing had something wrong with him, some sort of handicap that the parents couldn't cope with.

I discovered in my family back in the 1930's, a baby was born with Downs and the hospital staff recommended that she be insitutionalised. This was kept hush hush but my nan let it slip many years later. I don't know whatever happened to that little girl.

on the certificate in the same hand writing as the rest it says left at hospital.

the father was posted to aldershot from leicester and his wife followed him. it says born at louise margret hospital

yes i was thinking perhaps they left him there for that reason was sadly common in those days. but i can not find anything else for him other than his birth

Eastenders is a soap opera.

A couple of weeks ago one of the main characters went looking for her sister - been told she had died in the 60's

The sister had downs - Pat (the main character) had been told her sister had died but in fact she had married! She had died though before Pat found found her :-(

i have gone to 1947 and from 75-2005 his name was frank reginald dormer and he was born on 15/10/1911 first child of frank reginald dormer and rowena askew wood needham or needham wood depending on her mood. askew wood were her middle names. . her mother was not married when she had her and father not present on her birth certificate but at her christening her father was named as robert wood. hence the wood bit no idea where the askew came from

ps rowena died in 1992 aged 101 so it is posible that he may still be alive

If he was left then it is possible an informal adoption was arranged and the child took his new parent's surname.

He could have grown up knowing nothing different.
