My ggrandfather David Hatelie was born in Montreal, Canada about 1864 and somehow ended up in Stoke Damarel, Devon where he married Rhoda Louisa Fowler. He was a Chief Engineer in the RN and the 1901 census has him in The Royal Naval Hospital in East Stonehouse, Devon. Rhoda was born in 1861in Stoke Damarel. I can't find a death for either of them and can only think they may have gone back to Canada though why they would leave their children behind I have no idea. If anyone has access to Canadian records could they please look up his birth and death. I'd love to find out anything about him. Thanks for reading this. |

Have you considered other spellings - perhaps with a Y rather than IE? |
