Hi I am trying to find some info about an acester of mine. He was a Hatter by trade and had his own business but in 1788 he was fined £5 for 'selling stuff hat not marked with price' Can anyone tell me more about this as I can't see why selling a hat without a price on it would have such a havey fine, or am I well out on this? Help Please. Margaret |

I don't know the answer to this but would be interested. I had a hatter back in 1820 and know very little about hatters (at the moment). Jill |

Just for interest look at www.hatworks.org.uk/ the UK's only museum dedicated solely to the hatting industry, hats and headwear They may be able to offer more info if you contact them. Carol |
