I've spent so long looking for my 2xgreat grandfather because he was an idiot. He was born Richard Alexander Sharp but switched to Alexander Sharpe when he married. He also named his father on his marriage cert as Robert when his father's name was actually William. I've been going around in circles because of him. if he wasn't already dead, I'd strangle him!!! Deb:) |

Yes! I've got one who was born Maud Emma, died as Maud Emma but on her wedding day decided she was Lilian Kathleen Maud!!! (Personally, I'd have kept the Emma!) |

Oh yes Deb! My grandmother was always known as Annie - on her marriage and death certificates. On investigating her father as given on the marriage certificate, I discovered that she was christened Hannah Woodend after her late mother. No wonder I couldn't find her on the Census! Added to which, her father appeared on one of the Census returns as 'Elen' instead of 'Heber'. Made for some confusion when I thought I was looking at a mis-spelt 'Ellen'! |

The only piece of information my grandad gave me about his mum was that her name was Louisa - my niece was even given that name as a middle name. It turns out her name was Sarah! |

On the 1841 Scottish census my 3xg grandmother is Mrs Ed Hegney from Ireland, on my 2xg grandfathers marriage cert says his father's name was James the same as his. I'm having a nightmare trying to work out which is right! |

My paternal granddad was John Maudesley, could find absolutely nothing for him so had to go down the route of his mothers second marriage to a George Massie. In fact I knew more about granddads step father than I did about his mother. After a very long two year search I found that granddad had taken his mothers maiden name when he left home and took ship for a two year trip to Australia. When he returned to the Uk in about 1896 he married grandmother using the name John Maudesley, which was his mothers maiden name, Mawdsley. Yes, if he were still alive I would shoot the old so and so, but I used to look at his photo and say...'You won`t get the better of me granddad, I WILL find you', and I finally did. Kathlyn |

Oh Yes! My Dad told me that one of his mother's sisters was Nellie. Whilst searching the IGI records I found the baptism of several of grandma's siblings including a Lydia...yep that was Nellie! The Irish are worse. I have a Sheila who's called Maggie and God knows how many known as Cis! |

Don't worry, we'll have the last laugh, i.e. when our future family starts their research they are going to find Glenn, Peter, Stan and Pop my current rellies and guess what their real names are all PETER. |
