The copies from the GRO are only copies of what the clerks wrote when they copied the original certs so don't think they have anything written by your rellies.

That's what I meant Andrea - copies of the original transcription, not copies of the original certificates. Kath. x

Hiya, It's just nice to think we see the certs as our rellies saw them rather than a typed copy. I had heard that some London RO's dont like us relly hunters, shame as we give them good revenue. Thankyou all again Patricia

Reggie, Thankyou for that,I have used local ones a couple of times one for Hull and one for Tynemouth both very efficient.Tynemouth was a copy of the original writing. Do the GRO do original or typed copies or does it depend on the cert?If thats not a silly question. Thanks Patricia

Most of the register offices in London won't issue certificates for family history purposes. I would use the GRO . I have never received a typed certificate from the GRO - always a photocopy of the original transcription. Kath. x

Hi Patricia All the ones I have received from GRO are typed. Thing I like about being able to go to local registries is they tend to be a lot quicker than GRO. Sue
