If it's unusual name you might track your gr gran down on the 1901 census - might even be with her parents. 1911 census wouldn't give you much more info as depending on her age she might have left home.

The next census will be for 1911 which may not help much - unless her mother had an unusual name it might be difficult to find her in that census. Does she have an odd middle name - sometimes that's a clue to father's surname. Jill

After my Nan died 9/10 years ago i found out that her mother gave her away at around a year old to people who my mother had always thought were her blood grandparents. I have since obtained her birth certificate which states the address my Nan was born, her mothers name and occupation, no fathers name and my Nans origanal sername.My Nan was born in 1915 so does this mean i need to wait for the next cencus to find out any more information? Any advice or help will be wounderful! Andrea Clark
