Anne, don't apologise, I'm grateful for any help. The Preview Pane is 'unclicked'. Not all e-mails are 'open' it just seems to be the last one received. Also, if I want to delete an e-mail, it 'opens' first. Thanks, M. Steer |

Pleased to hear it bounced. Do not reply to these messages. If you do it confirms to the spammer they have alive address! C |

Margaret, sorry to butt in here but you say your messages open automatically in Outlook Express. Is this in the Preview Pane at the bottom of the screen? If so you can stop this!! In Outlook Express click on the View drop down menu. Click on Layout and untick the box for Show Preview Pane. Hope that helps - I used to find it infuriating! Anne |

Clive, the 'message' was blank but had an attachment - a PDF file. My husband in his ignorance/innocence sent a reply - asking who they were etc. It came back 'address unknown'. Thanks, M. Steer |

The pdf file is likely to be called alert.pdf, programme.pdf or something anyway. Unless they have come from someone you know who has siad they are sending the file just delete the whole message. As long as they are unopened they are harmless. Note that the messge to which the pdf is an attachment may well be blank. Opening the message (a la Windows Express automatic system) is OK. Opening the attachment is not. Clive |

No. Not, of course, unless you need an excuse?! ... You gave me some advice the other day ref. Zip files and Virus'. I think I'm OK with that - I couldn't unzip a file if I wanted to. I've received another 'suspect' e-mail, this time the attachment is a PDF file. You're probably wondering why 'on earth' do I 'open' these e-mails. Well I don't, for some reason Outlook Express automatically opens the last e-mail. I'm changing from Outlook Express but in the meantime I'm worried that this e-mail/PDF file may have a virus lurking somewhere - should I avoid using any particular programmes? Please don't let me interfere with your windows - there's still a few hours of daylight left. Thanks, M. Steer |

Thanks Reg, but I don't like to 'presume'. It isn't anything particularly personal I want to ask. M. Steer |
