Hi On ancestry I found the record of George Poole in the war pensions , I can't find anything else on this man to do with the army does anyone know anything about these records. Thank you Margaret x

The records are for men who served in World War One, and are for those who received an Army pension.

Thanks Ann But I think he had served quite a bit of time in the army by then and it looks like he is then put on the reserve list. It is for George Poole born 1884 Edmonton Margaret

Margaret If he had served with the Army before WW1 then his records from previous service may be amalgamated with his WW1 records. What is it you want to know?

Hi Ann that is the whole trouble I can't find any army records at all about him anywhere except what I found on ancestry Margaret

I've just had a look at his records. His attestation paper tells you which regiment he was in previously. If he was discharged to pension from his previous service, there may be records at National Archives. If he didn't get a pension, then there won't really be anything. Have you clicked on next after the 1st page? There are lots of pages for George.

You are lucky - the Pension records for your man are quite full aren't they, and I think his is the first file I've seen with a record of when he applied for his medals, wonder why he left it so late (1925-7) I see that he says on his enlistment form that he had previously served with the 20th Hussars. There are about 12 pages on Ancestry for George's pension records. Just keep scrolling through the pages by hitting the right pointing green arrow at the top and eventually you'll get there. Update Or more simple call up the first image of his records then substitute 2759 or 2760 for the image number and hit Go as these are the two images which record his application.

I've just got 7 pages on my OH's grandad instead of 1 & found out he was 5 ft 2 in & had a 35 1/2 in chest :-)

Good for you Penny. I'm amazed at how short all the soldiers I've looked up so far have been. My dad was 6ft, as is my brother, even my mum was 5 ft 8 but none of my grandads and great uncles were above 5 5 (Still at least I now know where I probably got my own lack of height from (I'm 5 2) and don't have to blame the milk man :-)

I only have one picture of him - only given to me last year - he was my big brick wall !! - anyway in the photo he is sitting down - well I thought he was :-)

Hello Judith I did not know you clicked on the next page I have been looking for these records for over 5 years and I can't tell you how pleased I am I have had to phone my sister to let her know. I can't thank you enough for telling me what to do I am over the moon . I know it is the right person because I know his mother was remarried to a Thomas Williams and to top it all off his brothers address was there as well Thank you Margaret x
