Hi Margaret, The problem is he is also on 1901 census as Sparrow, Staying with his Grandmother Charlotte Sparrow. These are records found for his birth and death. John Henry Sparrow Year of Registration: 1882 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Horncastle County: Lincolnshire Volume: 7a Page: 544 (click to see others on page) John Henry Sparrow Estimated Birth Year: abt 1883 Year of Registration: 1907 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar Age at Death: 24 District: Horncastle County: Lincolnshire Volume: 7a Page: 394 (click to see others on page) This is what is so confusing. I believe that it's just a mistake on the 1891 census. John was actually John Henry Clifton, son of Hannah's first marriage. From FreeBMD: Hannah Maria Sparrow marries John Clifton, Dec. Q. 1882, Horncastle. John Henry Clifton born Jun. Q. 1883, Horncastle. John Clifton dies Sep. Q. 1885, Horncastle, age 29. Hannah Maria Clifton marries George Dunn Dec. Q. 1888, Horncastle.

Hi Gillian, Yes he did.. However i have just found a death record for John in 1907 aged 24. So after all that it cannot be the right one. As the The John i am looking for died aged 75. Sorry for the waste of time, but thank you for your help.

Thanks to help from Jim earlier, who helped to find Hannah M Sparrow in 1891 married to George Dunn. It also appeared as though Hannah had previously been married and widowed.Her previous married name had been clifton.(also thanks to Jim's detective work) Hannah had a son in the 1891 census who was named John H Sparrow. This is what i cannot make any sense of - John was born around 1883, when Hannah was infact married and known as Hannah Clifton. Why then was her son listed in her maiden name and continued to use her maiden name even in 1901. Sorry i also meant to say Hannah's first marriage took place in 1882, a year before John was Born. Can anyone help solve this mystery. Many thanks Julie
