Is there any way to find out whether an address in July 1938 was a private home, nursing home, or whatever? I have just got a death certificate for husband's great-aunt. The address where death occurred is 25 Karslake Road, Liverpool 15 The great-aunt was 80 years old, died of myocarditis and senility, and the informant seems to be an unrelated person. This great-aunt was single, and the last remaining member of her generation ................... which is why I wonder if the address was a nursing home. I live in Canada, so am unable to visit a library or such place in person! Thanks, Sylvia (in Canada)

Karslake Road is in Liverpool 18 not 15, off Penny Lane. And is a road of private houses.

Hi Poirot, Thanks for that! Liverpool 15 is what it says on the death certificate. I gathered that it was private houses now, as I did find a website with houses for sale in Karslake Rd ...................... fancy prices as well! Not quite what I would have expected for the Penny Lane area ......... but then it was 1959 to 1964 when I lived in L'pool. But I wondered whether anyone knew how to find out whether gt aunt was living in a private house in 1938, whether it was a private nursing home type of place, or what! I know she and her sister (who died in 1916) were confectioners and bakers in West Derby from about 1881, but the Karslake address is not one that has shown up before. The 'old' address I had for them was Milbourne (?Melbourne) Rd., West Derby. Sylvia

According to my Gores 1938 disc, there is a 25 Karslake Road in Liverpool 15, which is Wavertree. All it says is Ambler Regnld at the side and makes no mention as to it being a acare home or anything else. Daisy

Julie and Daisy ......................... Sorry for the late reply ...................... this is the first time I've been on the computer today .... and it's just after lunch here!! Julie .................... Thanks for the address, I think I will just try that! Especially with the information that Daisy provided. Daisy .......................... WOW ................... the informant on the death certificate (and present at death) is R. Ambler!! At least, it now looks more like Ambler than the A...ler we thought before (the writing is very faint!). Now that provides another layer to the puzzle! Sylvia
