There is a boy (John Carr) listed with the Cogdon family as head of household's step-son, who i have taken to be the head's wife's son. However, I'm looking for the wife's maiden name and because I think she already had a son before she married Cogdon I'm not sure whether their marriage cert would be useful...i.e. would it show her previously married name...or her original name (maiden name). If not...where could i find this when I don't know any thing about John? Clare |

If she had been previously married it is likely that she remarried in that married name. Hopefully the later certificate should show her father's name, giving you her maiden name. Which census are you referring to? Gwyn |

If she told the registrar the full details, all her previous names should be on the marriage cert. Her father's name will be on there (if known) which would confirm her maiden name Reg |

You don't give any clues as to when these events occurred..........would they be covered by freebmd? Reg |

A Catherine Carr married Charles Heads in June 1890. She was born about 1866. Her son was John Carr born abt. 1886 -- i think. I can't remember where I got this from...a census I think probably 1901 because the last child was born that year. That's all I know. Clare |

The odds are that the boy was born out of wedlock........you need to look for Catherine in 1881. The marriage cert would be useful, as it would confirm her father's details. Reg |

Yeah I thought that, but I wanted proof instead of going up a completely unrelated branch (like if I followed up Carr when that wasn't her first name). Will have to be her and Charles' marriage cert then. Thanks Reg. |
