What was the date of the death? Was it before 1901 so you could look to see if she was recorded on the census or was it after that? Kath. x

When I received my 2x gt grandmother's death cert the informant was her daughter who was also present at the death...my 2x gt grandfather was alive and kicking though. Hope this helps. Linda

We have all manner of people including sister-in-law and next door neighbour.recorded as informants, even when we know the spouse was still alive.... Sometimes it might be that the spouse was frail, elderly or sick. At other times it may be that the daughter, ( or whoever) was able to call into the Register Office more easily....perhaps on their own way home to their own house. Gwyn

Perhaps there was no special reason, just that the daughter was going to or near the Registry Office that day !. I have had all kinds of relatives register deaths when a spouse was alive, sons-in-law, sons, daughters, grandchild. Even several people who we cannot identify as relatives. DI

I have the death certificate for my husbands gt grandad and the informant was his daughter. Now would this be because his wife was dead or ill or some other reason? I was trying to find out if his wife died before him or after him, as I can not find a death for her. Sue
