Member Since: June 2003 Posts: 735 Send Message	I have recently obtained a copy of the baptism entry for my 4th gt grandmother, it gives me all the info I needed, but it also says she was baptised privately. What exactly does this mean does anyone know? Thanks Ann

	My understanding is that if a baby was poorly and might not live the midwife or doctor or somesuch might baptise it.

Member Since: March 2003 Posts: 887 Send Message	Ann, If you google 'private baptism', you will find references to churches talking about performing it in 'dire emergencies' .... ... it would otherwise be a congregational event, like confirmation. I would imagine your Gtx4 Grandma wasn't expected to survive as a babe. Regs Annie
