Enlarged image improved things drastically. I think Charles is a Superintendent of Excavators, as with railways or canals. Ozi.

Hi Kath and Ozi Wanted to say a big Thank you to you both for your help. Harry did indeed die, sometime between his marriage 1892 and 1910 (when Louisa remarried in Wellington) Can't find him on 1901, but have found Louisa, a widow, right age, living as a housekeeper at 28&29 Nutford Place, St Marylebone, London. To the side it is written Church Army. So maybe he died before 1901. Can't find a death for him anywhere. Present day family believe he died during the war. Well, it certainly couldn't have been the 1914/18 war. If you have any other ideas, for where I can search, please let me know. Thank you both loads Christel

Well done Kathleen. Yes I thought the last word was service. Looking at the image again I think you're spot on with Harry. I'm still not sure about the solicitors. Yes I emailed Christel too. Being in the merchant navy would be why he's difficult to find on the census. Ozi.

Hi Ozi, I came up with Land Surveyor too. I thought the other was Superintendant of Solicitors (only a guess) Decided on Chief Mate, Merchant Service. I've emailed Christel with results. Kath. x

Kathleen, I've found it really difficult. I think Louisa's father is a Land Surveyor. Harry's father possibly a Superintendent of Educators????? Harry - God only knows - Chief ??? ??? ??? Ozi. I can't find the Hetts on the census either.

I don't know if anyone can help me, I really can't make out the 'Professions' on a marriage cert, 1892. If anybody is willing, I could scan it and email it to them. I really don't know what else to do. All advice gratefully received!! Christel
