I have been a member of Ancestry for over a year and think I may not be using it correctly. I have been searching for someone forever and have been by somebody that the person I'm looking for is there, she said 'Just go to all 72 B.D. & M records and Middlesex comes up' No matter how I try it doesn't happen for me. Any instructions anybody please. Lin |

What is it exactly that you are looking for? Is it 1972 or 1872 and is it a birth, marriage or death? Kath. x |

I have been searching for the birth John Arnold 1802 Bethnal Green in order to find his parents and siblings. I have his 2nd wife Mary Ann Allington and his children. From parish records I discovered he was a widower when he married Ann so I need also to find his first wife. |

You are not likely to find what you are looking for on Ancestry. You need to have a look at www.familysearch.org and click on IGI. Then put in John Arnold's name and approximate year of marriage - specify that it is marriage you are looking for and see what comes up. It is by no means complete though. You probably need to look at parish records for what you are wanting to find. Kath. x |

Hi Kathleen, I've done the IGI bit and there isn't anything on there for him. I've done the parish records, did find a marriage to Mary Ann Allington in 1827 but only the witness names which turned out to be Mary's sister and BIL Any other ideas |

Sorry - other than trying parish records again, I can't think of anything. Did the second marriage record say the groom was 'of this parish'? If it did, then perhaps he was living in the same place when he married the first time. If you can't find him marrying the first time in that parish, you would have to work your way outover into neighbouring parishes to see if he married in any of them. Sorry - not much help. I don't really understand what your first contact meant be all 72 BMD's?? Kath. x |

No Kath, the parish records were really poor, just names of bride and groom, two witnesses, married by bans, and the curates name. From 1920 backwards every BD & M was in St Leonards, Shoreditch for the entire Arnold family. Thanks for trying anyway. Lin |

That's all I would expect from a marriage record at that time. You don't get the same amount of information as you get on certificates after 1837. Kath. x |
