army pensioner

Hi everyone, I am looking for some help if possible please, I have John Toplis 1891 as a coalminer, 1901 as a army pensioner aged 27. I do know that John died young aged 48 but can not workout which war he was in. Any help very much apprciated Phyllis

There are 3 on the WW1 pension records. do you have a date of birth or area?

As he was an Army pensioner in 1901, he may have been in the Boer War, or may have enlisted anytime 1891 onwards. Perhaps then he enlisted for WW1. Hope his records are on Ancestry -if so, they should include details of his service prior to WW1.

Sheila, how do you find records prior to WW1 on Ancestry?

As he served in WW1 the transfer papers are included
