Hi Kate, I have had a reply from Austria, not very positive though I'm afraid. She can find no trace of the names you said in the Austrian records. But the fact Trieste is now in a different country makes no odds, records for Trieste will still be held in Trieste. If you pm me your email address I will forward the email to you. The following sites are about Italian Genealogy:- http://gens*labo*net (this one is only in Italian) www*rootsweb*com/~itawgw www*anzwers*org/free/italiangen http://italiangenealogy*tardio*com/html www*regalis*com/italgen.htm www*daddezio*com Good luck, sorry I couldn't help more, Duncan |

Hi Kate, sorry to take so long, computer troubles yet again. I have a contact in Austria, I will email her to see if she can throw any suggestions in for you. She is very helpful, and the Austrian records are very good, so keep your fingers crossed. Do you have any idea when George the father was born? In the meantime, I will nudge a thread entitled Foreign Ancestors which you may find interesting. Duncan |

I don't think there's anything online for Austria, and there definitely isn't for Italy (except a handful of entries on the IGI). However, Cyndi's list may have some useful tips: http://www.cyndislist*com/austria.htm (replace asterisk with dot) |

I've just made what could be a major breakthrough with my husbands line in discovering what may be my husands 2nd x great-grandfather. Previously I only had the 2nd x great-grandmother MARIA VOELKL but I now think there is a chance that her husband was GEORGE VOELKL and that he may have originated from Trieste when it was still part of Austria. Of course now I'm clamping at the bit to find out more but don't know where to start. I think the family arrived here after 1880 and by 1901 George had died and his wife Maria was a widow. There were 3 children that I know of: PAULA C. 1863, GEORGE C. 1873 AND AUGUST ADOLPHE HENRY C. 1875. All born in Austria. I can't find them in 1881 or 1891. So, what I'm asking is does anyone know if there are any Austrian records available online and if so where do I go please? Here's hoping for positive news. Kate :) |
