Looking hopeful - Free BMD have updated the 2b 106 reference and added Rebecca Saker (from the 1851 and 1861 census it seems that Rebecca Laker living in Frant in 1851 might well have married William Braybon and moved to Tunbridge Wells by 1861). So Julia's marriage is more likely to be to Odear and not to William Braybon.

Apologies, Ticehurst is the district, and not necessarily the town where the marriage took place. Perhaps order the certificate for Julia, find out which church etc and then find the original entry?

Ivy Report 30 Jul 2007 17:43

Is it possible that Charles is 'Odear Hawes'? I've had a look at the scanned image, and this has been placed in the H's, and is correctly transcribed by Free BMD. However, the image is itself of a transcription from the initial registering of the marriage. If the verger etc had appalling handwriting, it is just possible to go from Charles to Odear and from Sales to Hawes. Is there any chance of getting a look at the Ticehurst church/chapel register itself?

She may have been married before: Marriages Jun 1853 Braybon William Ticehurst 2b 106 Cheesman Julia Maria Ticehurst 2b 106 Hawes Odear Ticehurst 2b 106 Ticehurst is in the very near vicinity. I can't however find a subsequent marriage for Julia to Charles. Suzy
