Hi, I have John Chadwick 1811 on the 1861 Census in Beard,Ollerset,Whittle and Thornset It gives his birthplace as Ettock I do not think there is such a place? I can find His wife Ellen On the 1851 and 1871 census but John is not there. Can anybody make out His Birthplace as this may help. Thanks lisa

It looks like Fitton. There was a Fitton Hill in Lancashire. It was near Chadderton. Doesn't help with finding him in 1851 though :(

Thanks I thought it Looked like Fitton as well. wherever he is he seems to leave poor Ellen raising the children on her own most of the time!

Hi Georgina, He supposed to be a block calico printer when living in Derbyshire as was his Wife I was thinking maybe he was traveling looking for work.

Hi Lisa One Georgina found in 1851 looks like best bet. Showing occ as Back Tinter? Robert (father) is a 'Mixer Cotton' Ann (sister?) is a 'Throstle Spinner' But showing John as unmarried? Sue

Yes It does look good but as Ellen is in derbyshire stating She is married I wasn't 100% sure.

Sue the 1851 does show John as unmarried but the enumerator has put an X beside it which could mean an error. Georgina.
