I have a convict on the 1st fleet,'Charlotte' was the ship,the same one that the story of Mary Bryant,the programme on TV a few months back. I found this from Australian web sites. When you say about the conditions on board,apparently the 1st and 2nd fleets were treated far better than subsequent transportations,because the whole idea was to set up a healthy colony.That was why they took seeds for crops etc,as Captain Cook had said Botany Bay was a fertile place,and this didn't prove to be so,and they moved further up the coast to Port Jackson,which is now Sydney. There were 11 ships in the 1st fleet,and not as many died as in later voyages. I have a chart on my wall here with the names of all the convicts on each ship,and all the provisions of the supply ship that accompanied them. One thing among the goods on board which amused me........ 1 piano for surgeon Worgan!! Brenda
