You cant look up adoptions on this site at all. Not sure what you mean by 'look up' an adoption. what is your predicament?

Hi again, Claire, The index of adoptions is not on line anywhere, but is on open shelves probably at the Family record centre in London. (Used to be at St Catherine's House many years ago.) However, that only lists adopted children under their new name. To protect the anonymity of birth and adoptive families, there are no actual records, available to the general public, which link the two families. Only adoptees are able to obtain this information, on a personal application only basis. Jay

Hi Janet, could i ask you , are the adoption records no longer at St. Catherine's House . and if not do you know where they are now and when you view the adoption record do you know if the place of adoption is stated . Thanks Hazel

Myddleton Street, London is where the adoption books are now and it does not show where the adoption took place. All that shows is the volume and page number with the new name of the adoptee. Sometimes it shows year, for example born 1942 adopted 1947.

Sorry Hazel, Wasn't ignoring you - dealing with a problem and have just come back. However I see Joan has already filled you in! Joan, are you 'the' Joan on adoption matters? - have heard other members in the past speak of your knowledge and help with adoption and tracing issues! Jay
