Nudging up with further info. I believe the following is my Richard Alexander with father Robert in 1881. The only birth ref I've been able to find for the children is Isabella's in Sept quarter 1880, West Derby. I could really do with some help please. I've just looked on IGI and 1881 census, and I don't think it's the right one. This one's father's name is Alex. I really have to look at either 1873/1874 as his birth year, going by his age on marriage cert. Or am I being too rigid with dates/age? Deb:)

Hi Gwyn, What makes it so confusing is that he switched to his middle name some time after the 1891 census and before his marriage in 1895. Also the spelling of Sharp changed to Sharpe and I'm starting to wonder if I'm going mad! Deb:)

Hi Deb It doesn't really help perhaps but I have a GG uncle born about that time(1871) and registered Richard. I have seen his gravestone and other references and he was obviously known as Robert. I wonder if it could be the same for your man and that IS the right registration. Gwyn

Hi all. I can't find my g/grandfather's birth ref. His name was Richard Alexander Sharp/e born c1873 in Liverpool. On his daughter's birth and marriage certs, his name is Richard Alexander Sharpe, mmn Margaret McNerney. on his marriage cert May 1895, his name is Alexander Sharpe and he's 21. His father's name is Robert. I thought I'd found his birth ref but when I ordered it, I put a ref check on father's forname being Robert and GRO refunded saying father's name wasn't Robert.
