Vivienne, How old roughly would Lucy and her husband be on the 1891 census? I have access to that and I'll check where she's from on that. Also whereabouts in the country will they be? |

Hi Lucy Have found L.H. Smith on free BMD where it shows as her being born in Brixworth. In the FRC she is showing as Lucy Hannah Butcher from Billericay :-( Viv |

Hi there Lucy may well have been living elsewhere, it was common proctise for the elder children to move out, to make room for the new ones! Many of my family were found working as shop assistants, nannys and genereal servants, some even for brothers and sisters. Regards Maxine |

Hi, It's possible that she invented Thomas to save face when she married. She may have been illegitimate. Do you have her mother's maiden name from the birth cert of a sibling? Gwynne |

Please can someone help me? I have been trying for 13 months to trace the family of my Gt.Grandmother, Lucy Hannah Smith. I have a copy of her marriage certificate which shows she married William Francis Butcher 22/3/1883 in North Benfleet Essex. Her father - Thomas Smith (farmer). I have found her name in the 1881 census as being born in Brixworth, but marriage cert shows that she was living in North Benfleet at time of marriage. However, I cannot find a Thomas Smith living in Brixworth with a daughter named Lucy Hannah :-( anyone any ideas please? |
