Thanks Margaret, David and Rosemary But I think I might have found him now - under Greenlaw instead of Greenley - along with his parents. He was a farm labourer so not quite as exciting! I had tried every other variation of the name and found it quite by accident. Must have been a transcription error. But thanks for you replies. Jeanette |

Hi Jeanette, My great grandfather was also missing from the 1901 Census. Fortunately, I knew that he fought in the Boer War but so far I've not been able to find out exactly where he was fighting. So, I'd say there's a chance that your rellie was doing his bit for Queen and country. But do bear in mind that he could have been absent from home on Census night for an entirely different reason. Good luck in your hunt. David |

Hi Jeanette, If you go to Google and type in Boer War it comes up with lots of options. You might find something useful there. Good luck Regards Margaret |

I can't find a male relative on the 1901 census (can't find a death for him either) and wondered if he could be away fighting in the Boer War. Is there a website where I could find this info? Jeanette |
