Many Thanks to all for responding. It looks as though the 100 year rule is in operation. Jim Jones. |

I have looked into this and apparently in England prison records are subject to the 100 year disclosure rule. Ginny |

Hello Sarah & James, I have copies of my husbands family prison records from 1914-17, however they are Irish records, some we where not allowed to copy and these remain 'closed' for the time being. Perhaps you need to contact Kew as they would be the best people to advise you on English prison records Eileen in Portsmouth |

Hi Could i just ask?? Is there a place or a website where you can find out if a relative has been in prison? As i have a relative William (billy)DRURY ,last seen in the 50`s-60`s in Kent. He was well known for being in trouble with the police. The family think he ended up in prison ,for some reason or another. He may of even died in prison. A few years ago someone informed me that i would only beable to check prison records up to the early 1900`s. If this is so, is there another way to find out? Many thanks Sarah |

A distant relative thinks we had an ancestor who may have been in prison on the Isle of Wight 1950's or 1960's. Does anybody know if there is any info out there I can access in the public domain? Jim Jones |
