The index looks poor to me. Many names are on 3 times, so I assume their index population coverage are significantly less than their claims. I am not that impressed with the way the index works. It is not as flexible as I would have liked. Also my relatives in Bethnal Green were not on the index, yet I found them on the census. I am not sure whether this means that their claims to have indexed Bethnal Green are exagerated or whether the quality of the transcribing isn't as good as I would like. I have not managed to find them with other variations. |

Sylvie I'm not sure if I have confused you with the "index" coverage that I put on. I only listed the areas that are NAME indexed, there are many other areas of London included on the CDs, but only the areas that I listed can be searched by name. Hope this clarifies it a bit. Sandra |

Marcelo I agree entirely about the index. It is great to be able to do a search, but what there is is very slow, and, as you say, not very flexible. However, the census itself provides us with such a wealth of information, that in some cases we would struggle to find elsewhere, I am just glad that we are now able to obtain it, without travelling to London or the local library (that's if you know which library!).
