Tried putting in Mary Flan* in 1901 and there was only one possible for Blackburn Mary Flannagan 4 born NK Joseph Flannagan 3 born NK No other Flannagans listed with them. With that and the Not Known, wondered if this could be the workhouse listing? Sorry but I haven't got any credits at the moment to view and check. |

Thanks all. Sue - My Grandad's birth certificate has the address 2 Hodson Street Blackburn, Lancashire. I have done a search for this address on the 1901 census but it's a different family living there then, which I thought it would be as that is too early. I know about the 1837 site but the thing is, when you don't even have a rough idea of when to start searching, it gets expensive pretty quickly. I am trying to find some more information first so I can narrow it down a bit first. I agree that the Mary Ann and Frank on the LDS site are probably too old. I have just got some more info from an Aunt and she says that Mary Ann and her mother come from Ireland and moved here "to escape the trouble in Ireland". They apparently ended up in the workhouse and the mother died there. Mary Ann would be about 110 now if she was still alive, so circa 1893?? Frank was born in Blackburn. I will go and check the IGI - just as soon as I sort my head out and work out what it is. I am having a very thick day today - too much wine last night I think!! Thanks again everyone. |

Hi Andrea I had a look on the LDS and found Frank Casey on the 1881 with wife Mary Ann and daughters Alice and Edith M. But Frank is 36 and Mary Ann 39 which would make them too old if John wasn't born until 1919. Frank and Mary Ann were both born in Ireland, and he was a Coachman. The daughters were born in St Helens. There are lots of Frank Caseys - and Mary Ann Flannaghans on the IGI! Take your pick!! Sue |

You could try 1837 online. I believe their records are up to the present day. Tricia |

I am stuck good style and just can't think of a way round it. I posted a message a few days ago but didn't get many replies and haven't been able to get any further. I am trying to do my Dad's side of the family but there is only my Grandad still living, but he is now very confused in his old age and can't help. I have got my Grandad's name and date of birth (John Casey born 1919). I know his parents from his birth certificate (Frank Casey and Mary Ann nee Flannaghan). Other than this, all I have is a rough guess that my Grandad is one of 7 children (Rose, Frank, Frances, Mary and my Grandad - other two unknown). I don't know where in this line up of 7 my Grandad was born but can't find the parents' wedding anywhere around 1919 so I guess he wasn't the first. Have no clue how much older or younger all the others are so don't know where else to start looking. I live in Austria so I can't get to the libraries etc to search their records (my family all come from Lancashire in the UK) and I can't find anything on 1881, 1901 or FreeBMD. Where next??????? Please help! |
