Can anyone please tell me when they stopped entering the Mother's maiden name on the records? I have been looking for births on FreeBMD etc and then cross checking them with the 1837 as it had the Mother's maiden name. However, I have just check for one in 1871 and it doesn't have the Mother's name any more - so when does it stop? Also - WHY!!!? It was soooo useful. Does anyone know of another way to cross reference before ordering certificates? I live in Austria so can't get to libraries or record centres etc. |

From what i remember they didn't start putting the mother's maiden name on until about 1911/1912, and it has continued since then Zoe |
