1881 Census on Familysearch

I was just wondering if anyone know if the census on familysearch is complete. As i cannot find what I am looking for.

Researching:

Either it isn't complete, or the index is very wrong in places. I have two family members missing from it that I know should be there, and several others I can't find. Jan.

You have to factor in mistakes made by the ennumerator - most families were partly or completely illiterate, even down to the spelling of their names, so ennumerators had to guess or make it up - and also errors during transcription - there are a lot! It took me a year with the discs (before it was on Familysearch) to find one of my families - it had been mis-transcribed from Sear to Lear. Put a request on the board with names, dates/places of birth, occupation and a rough idea of location (or as much as you have) and some fresh eyes will look for you. Maz. XX

Or just have a bit of a creative play, you can search for all the people giving Barnsely 1870 as their date of birth for example, or all the people called Ann born in 1860. Just click on to the census search rather than the general one

There are a number of transcription errors on the 1881. Some of them not by accident. The most famouse is if you do a search for Pakistan as a birth place. This gives atleast one person. The country did not exist until after partition of India! I have found a number of errors when searching for my relatives, some of the spellings are not even close. If you know where to look then the neighbours option on the CDs can sometimes reveal what you are looking for. Bob
