Sandra, When you are on any page, up on the right hand side you will see help? Click it and you go into FAQ (freguently asked questions), if what you need is not there you can continue on and write your problem out and send it to them. They contacted me within two days(they have always been good like that), I had it sorted straight away and I am delighted to be back with the advance viewer, I dont need the option as I never use the ordinary viewer anyway. Good Luck. Pat x

I thought I was going mad withthe BMD so I emailed them. They mailed me back with a bit of gobbledygook, but I then worked out that if you click on the person's name the page that opens then tells you which it is. Not too helpful when you are searching though, means you have to open loads of pages. Ok if you have broadband, but for us lesser mortals its takes an age Babs

Sandra, I feel really silly I emailed Ancestry and as usual got a speedy reply. Turns out it wasnt them. I still do not have facility to change view but now I have the advance view ONLY??? which suits me its much better. I have had endless trouble with Norton especially lately, my sub was up at the end of this week so have switched from Norton (which I have no faith in) to McAfee Internet Security Suite 2004 the security is so efficient it wouldnt let me into hardly any sites, it let me on GR but I had trouble answering or sending emails from here. I changed the cookies tab in McAfee and its working at the moment, it also found 6 virus's on my computer and a load of Adware stuff??? Anyway I am now sorting the security out and I have had one success already I can now visit 1901 census online which I lost completely a few weeks ago, so I am much happier today with McAfee than with Norton. Fingers crossed it lasts. Sorry if I went on a bit......... Pat x

Sandra I have emailed them and asked why my advanced viewer is gone. I have this feeling I lost my original page when I left the free trial for American records. I am waiting for an answer from them, hope it doesnt take them weeks to reply. Pat x

On my page when I look at Image at bottom of page it says SWITCH TO BASIC VIEWER which means that I am using the Advanced viewer. when we had a bit of a shuffle around at home (in other words hubbie updating!!!!)I did find that I had to re load the advanced viewer scroll right down under image its definately on mine sandie

Zoe Report 4 Sep 2004 20:28

just checked the census results and i'm defnitely still getting the relationships as well as proper locations

Zoe

Zoe Report 4 Sep 2004 20:23

they seem to have replaced it hwith the district option as before you'd just get the county it was registered and would need to click on the name to see the exact area. Much more helpful than the way it is now as at least you could narrow down the ones in the right county and then check out the area. I've not noticed any changes in the results coming up for the census tho - although since I've been back online I havent had a lot of searches to do

Sandra, I cannot understand I have gone back into Ancestry to check that I wasnt talking a load of rubbish about the advanced viewer being GONE I thought maybe I need to change my glasses??? But on my Computer there is definetly No Advanced Viewer??? All I have at the top is: save to my Ancestry Order high quality print. The place you actually view the census on the right hand side of the census form is: zoom in, zoom out, percentage changes, move image left right etc., at the bottom there's just save print and quality. I'm going to email them now and ask why I have lost the ability to use the advanced viewer. I thought it had been taken away when they re did the site a few weeks back. Hope all that doesnt sound too complicated and confused you. Pat x

advanced viewer is still there, at bottom of page under image it either says to return to basic viewer or to go to advanced. I am still using the advanced viewer sandra ps I agree other system was friendler

Anne, This new system started only a while back and I actually posted on one of the boards here had anyone else had this sort of problem with Ancestry? I then realised it couldnt be my computer it had to be their new look. The other thing that bugs me is they changed (at the same time) the census viewing I used to use the advanced viewer and was able to do a lot more than I can now with this viewer it also made it much clearer, to do the same thing now you have to save the page. Anne , I know what you mean, I find this new system a bit mind-boggling . Must say that I prefer the other system , I thought that it was more straight-forward . regards Joyce

John, lol........... i'll try and be a bit clearer.... When I first started using the site about 4 months ago, if you searched a name on 'all types' you would get results for all records of that name showing in columns headed thus:- Name Year Quarter EVENT = (Births or Marriages or Deaths) District County Page Vol So next to each result it told you whether that entry was a BM or D.......... then of course you could go to the advanced section and narrow the results down to the specific event you were looking for......... Anyway, Christine has backed me up so at least I know it not just me going mad LOL........ I know it's not a major issue, but for ease of reference, it's just what you get used to huh? :)

Mystified Report 4 Sep 2004 09:41

Do you mean the GRO references? Yes they all come up without whether it is a BM or D but as I say when in that area of BMDs go down the page and yoyu can click on Advanced options and ask for which one. If this is not what you meant, apologies John

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 4 Sep 2004 09:33

Hi John, no what I meant was - if you search for 'all types' the results do not have the column which identifies what the record is at all! ie. B M or D just 'name' 'year' 'quarter' district' 'page' .......... you could have pages of results but not know what each individual record is until you click into the name. I promise you it is not an 'operator' error on my part :P been using the site for months now, I know its not me doing summat wrong ;)

Christine in Herts

Christine in Herts Report 4 Sep 2004 08:56

Hi I've found the same thing - but on a sort of coming and going basis. On one occasion the first name disappeared from the search function - that was a bit challenging! It reappeared the next time I had a look. Christine

Mystified Report 4 Sep 2004 07:20

Ane, if I understnd you correctly you mean the BDM references? If so go down the page where the name is and click on advanced options, there you can choose Births etc. regards John

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 4 Sep 2004 00:33

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed on Ancestry(.)co that when you do a search the results no longer has the column that tells you whether it a B,M or D? Also on the census results, relationship is just 'relationship' and location is just 'location' etc.............. What on earth is going on? Surely they can't expect us to trawl thru hundreds of results trying to find the birth marriage or death we want?? I'm confused :(
