Just had a look for someone, and you can now search by name not just first 3 letters.

Wonderful! I may even be tempted to use their services now.

You just get one entry per quarter, a lot easier and quicker to check, though I expect common names would need more pages. Still cant find who I am looking for though.

Thanks I have now fathomed that there are missing pages as you look I'm looking for Pursey marriages in 1865 and the index goes from Purday to Purvis with not much in between in 1865 Jan/Mar ! Guess I'll never find it now! Kim

Kim, that page came up as free for me due to bad scan. I tried again with the name Purse, and the same page came up, so probably no names between that and Purvis. On the old system, you have gone back a page and spent money on a page you didnt need.

I've just looked at it and thought I'd test it by looking for names / dates I know for certain ( husbands birth / g grandparents marriage etc ) and nothing came up using the new way to search. I know they're there, so don't understand why i couldn't find them this time. Either I'm doing comething wrong or it's not as complete as it seems. Just makes me wonder how acurate it is when looking for something you don't know. Anyone find the same or is it just me ?.......:) Esta

Have you tried using the browse facility, that way I think you can see the page before and after if you need to, may help some of you. Diane

Esta, I have just typed in names that I knew and nothing came up for them am I doing something wrong also, It is a while since I used that site so I am a bit confused now can someone tell me what else to do as I know for sure these people are true. Sue...........................

Judith Report 6 Oct 2004 22:57

When you type a name the search returns the first and last names on the relevant page - it doesn't mean that the name you want isn't there, just that that's the page you need to look at to find it. Judith

Sidami Report 6 Oct 2004 23:19

Thanks for that Judith I will give it a go, I thought you just typed a name in and it showed on the page, so it is still a bit hit and miss as to what page you get then.........

I wish that they had changed it a week ago, before I spent a tenner on it! Still didn't find the marriage that I was looking for either! Run out of ideas now (and money!) Just had a peep and it's a lot better now. Maggy

Much better for someone who's looking for a more common name. It should save you having to 'stab' at the middle page of a selection hoping to hit on the correct first name letter. Sioux

So glad you posted this info. Had some credits on it but was fed up of spending money on the wrong pages. Re. them not having some records. On free Ancestry .co found details of someone. Checked 1837 but those details are not listed. Have sent for cert. so it will be interesting to see if Ancertry was correct. Have spent loads of money trying to find death cert of Ethel May Brewerton nee Wilkes - maybe it has been missed out!

I have just used 1837's new system and find it's Brilliant I found mine much easier and quicker. Its gonna save me a fortune I think. Wish they had done this ages ago. Pat x

I think when some people first start to use 1837online they sometimes forget to change the birth for marriage or death (I know I did) so sometimes you search and can't find what your looking for because you are looking at births when you really want marriages or deaths. Kath x

This is sooo much better, its going to save me loads of units. Now we just need them to cross reference the marriges!!! - Can you imagin how much time that will save.......

nothing comes up between Purday and Pur? when I put in other letter it just picks up the same page. I have emailed them to see if it is correct or just an error. I will let you know . Kim
