Thanks Peter for the hint about Castle Eden - I've been and checked out the history of the castle on Durham Records Online. It is certainly a possibility, but not definite - still that's family history research for you. Thanks to everyone who mentioned Abebooks - what a wonderful site - I have found various books about Hurworth on Tees - a family village. I will have to work more overtime to be able to afford them all ! Cheryl

I know what you meen Irene My Dughter is 17 on the 14 March, shes the last one of my kid (5) to hit that age Can't think were the years have gone.

Hi Bev, Did your book on Wingate mention a castle. One of my mother's stories was about an uncle that lived in a castle in Wingate, who she visited once when she was young. That would have been about 1915-1920'ish. Her family were ag. labourers and coal miners so her idea of a castle might have been any largish house. Thanks, Cheryl

I have quite often found a book I wanted on eBay. But I then check it on AbeBooks first to see if I can get it cheaper. Most times I can. There is also a uk one. Try that then all the results are bookshops in the UK. I've always been more than happy with the sellers. Diane

Peter, Another good source is the local area!! I visited suffolk a few years ago and bought a bookcalled 'Middleton Moor', where many of my ancestors came from - It's fantastic!!! Not only had the author put who built the houses (my rellies in 2 cases) (big smile) but tracked the adaption of the houses. I also found out my GGG grandfather was known as 'Dirty' LOL, and GG grandma was the first to have her own oven and cooked Sunday roasts and bread for the whole of the residents of the Moor!! maggie

I've had to pack all my books into boxes and store them I should be delighted that my 3 year old and my 14 month old are already discovering the delights of books. I just don't want them discovering the delights of them with mine, especially as my youngest seems to think a book is to be chewed! Can't wait till they're older and I can get them out again! Lou

Yes its a book shop in eastliegh. You can uses any good book shop to order its the ISBN number that importent. Mind you the Author and title will do as well.

I took a book out of the Library called More Memories of Bitterne. And I started to read it and found some of my families names. And then got half way through and found a photo and she turned out to be my Great Great Great Grandmother. It was all very exciting, and there was a little story about her family. I had that book out for months but finaly had to take it back, so I keep looking for that second hand as it is not printed anymore. You said guess was it the long shop with loads of books?

One I have put at the Top of my list is called Hampshire reviseted It full of old pic of Hants towns and villages. I'v been to quit a few and can see the changes. Its fasanating.

If you love books, have you got this one ? 'Our Hidden Lives - The everyday diaries of a Forgotten Britain 1945 - 1948' by Simon Garfield. It is wonderful. I got it as a Christmas present and already it is a much loved treasure amongst a group of friends, all of whom adored it. If it's you birthday soon, perhaps you can get someone to buy it for you! Hi Peter I went in all the Charity shops in Eastleigh yesterday, my little girl ws looking for some special dolls. My little boy sat ouside crying saying he didnt want to go in any more charity shops. They do have some lovely books but I didnt get much chance to have a good look. I did buy a nice pair of trousers though for £3.75

Books are my thing. I just wish I had a whole room to keep them in. I've got several boxes of novels in the loft. Will have to sort them out one day. I bought two new bookshelves at christmas and they are now full up. One is full of my genealogy books. When we go on holiday my family know if I see a bookshop thats it. My son is the only one of my three children to also like books. So I'm pleased.

Ditto I have over 200 books About 80 novels the rest are refrance, and cover nearly every thing.
