Just found this Spike Milligan did have 'I told you I was Ill' as His Epitaph BUT it is in Gaelic so Chichester diocese would aprove it

Not exactly an Epitaph Bill...'why do you call your mate Epitaph'. Dan...'Well when he gos out for the night, He always makes arangments with two girls. And spends all night running between each' Bill...So? Dan...Well. You alway get a dash between two dates on an Epitaph

When my father died in 2000, he had left instructions for his headstone which was to read 'Life is short'. The Funeral Director phoned me some weeks later in desperate embarrassment to say there had been a bit of a delay because - the stone had been received with the Inscription 'Life is shot'. My Dad would have laughed like a drain. Marjorie
