The first thing I can tell you is he served with Wellington in the Paninculer war. As that is were he got his wife. What you need to try and do is find which regemnt he was with. A servent meens he was prob a Batman (worked for an Officer) and depending on his age might off been wounded. (If he was under say 35/40 ) If he had an unusuel name and made rank or did some thing heroic, The nat Archives might have some thing on him (Slim chances but you never know) If you find out his battalion try finding a muster roll for that time he might be on it. I have typed in ' army ' on the search board and read 6 pages of corres. I know it will be difficult to trace.. question 1 a person born in Long Sutton Somerset in 1795 is in the army age 45 and is in 1851 age 55 a'servant in the army ' he has a wife born in Portugal so possibly served abroad... how is it possible to find anything at all about him..... I have been on the TNA site for half an hour and am confused ? PS forgot to mention he was in Martock Somerset on each census so maybe there was a Somerset Regiment ? |
