Iz I have to apologise, I'm sorry, I thought this thread had come to an end and forgot to look at it again. The free trial, on the deluxe edition, is 90 days for the world and 30 days for Uk and Ireland. Christopher Please don't worry about hijacking my thread, as you put it. All input was interesting to me too. Now that I know it won't take my debit card, I am hesitating too. Sorry to all for disappearing - As I say, I didn't know that it was still going :)) Chrissie

Hi All I had the same trouble when my debit card was Switch. I emailed Ancestry but they just wouldn't budge. Then the Halifax changed to Visa debit & that was OK Vivienne

Although I can't find it now, I think I saw the 12 CD set on their web site for about £29.95 a week or so ag. (Upgrade price) D

With FTM 2005 Deluxe edition I got a 30 day free trial of the UK & Ireland collection plus a 90 day free trial of the US Ancestory stuff included in the purchase price. At the end of the 30 day UK & Ireland trial, I cancelled that subscription so I didn't get hit with an autoatic renewal charge on my credit card. About month later I decided that maybe it would be a good idea to have access to the UK census information aggin ('cos I kept on wanting to look various things up). When I clicked on 'upgrade' I was offered a year of UK & Ireland for US$39.95... seemed like a good deal, so I took it up. Cheers, Bill

Do you mean the trial? The only trial you will get from them usually is the 14 day one. I don't believe you get everything with the one I had just UK and Ireland. Dianex

Thanks Diane, Is it not worth the effort then?

I believe that 90 day trial is for One World Tree, not the Ancestry records you mean. I have just been having an e mail row with Ancestry trying to activate the 30 day Ancestry trial I got with the Collectors edition. I also got a 1 year trial with One World Tree, which I haven't bothered with. I believe with the deluxe version it is a 14 day trial. I have also used a debit card for subscriptions to Ancestry in the past with no problems

Chrissie, where is the 90 day trial please? I am also thinking of joining but have only seen 14 day free trial this morning! Can you tell me if Canada is included as it mentions U.S. and couldn't see anything for Canada! Thanks Iz x

Can u pay with SOLO ? cos not many sites accept that

Bill

Bill Report 2 Apr 2005 02:56

> Ironic really, when GRO and other english sites will accept > American card's! There nothing like a good old cultural cringe is there! In this case your ire is misplaced. Genealogy web sites are aimed at an international market and used by many around the world. Its natural that they will use global payment mechanisms to get the broadest payment coverage. There are number of international payments networks, such as Cirrus and Maestro, and in practice if a payment card, whether credit or debit, particpates in one of the big networks then you can generally use it for electronic payment on a global basis. The problem with many UK debit cards is that they don't choose participate in the big international payment networks. You need to talk to your bank about that behaviour on their part. Cheers, Bill Sydney, Australia

Tracey I totally agree with you on that. Us Brits accept anything and everyone else calls the tune when they're trying to sell us back our own heritage. Better shut me up on that one I think LOL. Chris I have a Visa which is definitely a Debit Card - why don't you ask your Bank to issue you with a Visa Debit Card. I found out quite recently that it is normal for Mastercards to be issued unless you request otherwise at my Bank that is anyway - there's a Nightingale singing in * Square LOL. Jan

Haha I never thought of that. Most of the sites I want anything from always seem to be out of the UK that's for sure. LOL Jan :-)

Jan Report 2 Apr 2005 00:58

Hi Sue I'm sorry I don't know what the differences are either. I've got FTM2005 had it for about 6 months. Have no idea what version it is though but I am very happy with it. Jan :-))

Jan

Jan Report 2 Apr 2005 00:55

I expect that's why we've not a problem Tracey. We both have Visa. Such a pain for people who don't though. Can't see the difference myself can you. Jan :-)

Sue Report 2 Apr 2005 00:52

Could someone tell me what the difference is between the FTM 2005 version 4 and the Collectors edition and which one is better value for money. Also is the version 4 the same as the deluxe? Sorry getting bit confused especially with differing prices as to which one is which! Thanks Sue

Jan

Jan Report 2 Apr 2005 00:47

I paid with Debit Card too, I always do. Are some people having trouble then? There are a few restrictions though, they usually seem to have to be Visa or Visa Delta if they are Debit Cards. Jan :-))

Tracy Thanks very much for that. I had read several times recently where people had said that they wouldn't take debit card. I shall certainly take up the offer now. It will be great not to have to bother anyone else too :)) Chrissie x
