Hi again, If you want to look for siblings them you know her maiden name was Sophie E Dyer and you know that she was born on 1.3.1924, you could search years on either side of this to see if there were any siblings (hopefully a younger boy) they will be a child born under Dyer but the mothers maiden name will be down as Ames. Not to put a damper on things though it is possible that she may have passed away, as will older siblings. Best thing would be to search the years followowing her separation from your father, were they actually divorced and if so what year, this will give you a starting point, she has quite an unsual name so you may strike lucky, and you will need that name to see if she is still alive or passed on, also it may give you a way to trace any future children she may have had. Good Luck Sheila

Janet - I know that you're not looking for Edwards - but you did say that you think that she may have changed her name, so what name are you looking for? People can assume new names without any formal paperwork. More likely that she would change her surname than her given names, or she could have remarried? Richard

Janet Report 14 Apr 2005 14:01

Sorry shelia her name is DYER not Edwards!!! I have looked in the Public Records Office but so far have come up with nothing, I just dont believe she was an only child. Also not sure if im right, but if she gets re-married then doesnt my Dad get informed???? Jennie

Sheila Report 14 Apr 2005 13:54

Hi Janet, I have 4 Sophie E Edwards down on my disk but they are all down as Miss, my gut reaction is that she has re-married or passed away. Try 1837 to look to see if she is deceased, also you can look for a re-marriage after the time the divorce would have come through. If you want to find her siblings, have a look for her birth entry and see what her mothers maiden name was, then look a few years either side of her birth for sublings with the same surname and mothers maiden name is, probles is if these were older that her they could have also passed away. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help, Sheila

Vikki, ive been looking on that site and cannot find an address for her name, its probably looking me straight in the face...lol...good site though!! I also dont think she changed her name officially!! The Salvation Army couldnt find her and also my dad never even received any letters that would say she divorced him. She could be dead but there must be some of her family out there that i could talk to!! The other route I could go is to see if she had any brothers or sisters any ideas how to find this out. Trudy I know you didnt mean anything about adoption, i just thought i might have missed something. Richard Its not edwars im looking for....but thanks for looking anyway. Jennie

Hi Jennie There is always the possibility (as I'm sure you're aware) that she may already be deceased. I don't know whether this may help, but there is this record on Ancestry. The same birth date and christian names, although different part of the country so could be coincidental: Name: SOPHIE EMMA EDWARDS Death Year: 1999 Age: 75 Birth Date: 1 Mar 1924 Death Registration Month/Year: Jun/99 Registration District: Doncaster Inferred County: South Yorkshire Register Number: A54D Entry number: 182

Hi Janet, only mentioned adoption as, as you were so young when she went, perhaps some of the search methods used to trace birth parents might also point you in the right direction to find your mother - I didn't mean to suggest anything else, sorry if you misinterpreted it. Trudy

Hi Janet Have you tried searching under the name dyer? If im right (which im not sure) She would have to apply to the office she was registered at to change her name officially. You can search for a marriage as she would also have to disclose all previous names used including any she was known by. I hope you find her her - keep us posted. If you want me to search any sites I can try to do that for you. Jo's reply sounds quite promising regarding passing on a letter. Found an address for a S E Dyer here long shot but....... http://www(.)b4u(.)co(.)uk/index(.)cfm?event=search_findPerson:Display# Vikki xx

Trudy Report 13 Apr 2005 14:51

But even if you had it, you wouldn't be able to do much with it, the only people who are interested in it would be her employers and the tax man - and they won't tell you anything. What info do you know about her, put it on here and I'm sure some of us will have a look for you. Trudy
