Thanks Moira thats very nice of you. The address i have is, FURNACE PLACE,HASLEMERE,HANT,ENG. Also the name of the lady who lived there was a MISS NELL SMITH. A very common name i know. But i would really love to have some info on her. All i do know is she was down as the NEXT OF KIN for a english soldier in the candian expeditionary force, as a Friend. His name was Alex Pasfield. When he left in 1918 he was 42 years old, but i'm not sure of her age. I'm really sorry to go on so much, (i bet you wished you never asked now) but i have been trying for ages & ages to get somewhere with this and can't seem to get anywhere. Regards Jackie

Hiya Furnace Place still exists and I can say there are also two cottages - Stream Cottage and Stable Cottage. Not sure about other houses there. Actual address is Furnace Place, Killinghurst Lane, Haslemere. Maybe Jackie will come up with more.

Thanks Joseph. i don't know how you found it, i've tryed but never come up with anything, thats why i thought it wasen't ther anymore. I have read about people using Google so i try it but got absolutly nothing not even close to what i wanted. Is there any tips on how to use it for the best results as i just can't seem to get anywhere with it . Also is there a way of checking out the familes who lived in these cottages between 1915-1918? Sorry for going on again and am realy grateful for your help. Regards Jackie.

Jackie, Was he stationed in that area? I know Canadian Troops camped at Bramshott and Ludshott which are very close to Haslemere. Crista

First of all i want to thank everyone for all there help. Right now i'm going to try and expain this as best i can because i need to put this in some order so please bear with me i really am new to this. Alexander Pasfield is my Great, Granfather on my mothers side.In 1909 he left england and sailed to canada in search of work leaving his wife and 5 young children behind planning to send for them when he was settled. From there he went to chicago and worked for Marshall wards as a carpenter. He took up lodgings in Van buren street and was sending money home every week to his family and writing long leters 2/3 times a week still making plans about sending for them when he was more settled. Now this is where it went wrong. In 1911 the letters stopped and completely disapeared and it as always been a mystery to the family what happened. My Great Grandmother always believed he must have been in a fatal accident and died and that he would not have deserted her. Well we have finally tracked him down . It seems that he joined the canadian army in 1915. On the army papers he has said he was single and his mother was next of kin. He then had it changed to Miss N Smith,Furance Place, about 1917/1918.She is down as a friend. So this is where i am up to and am trying to find out what i can about this lady.Who knows there could be family members who knew of them through stories being told over the years. i know he did not die until 1952 but i don't know in what country there is no record anywhere. So you see after coming this far in the search for him i'm not ready to end it yet. A lot has happened between 1918/1952 for him to have left a trail i'm sure. So i would be very grateful for any ideas that you could give me to what to try next. Thankyou in taking the time in reading all of this but felt i needed to get it off my chest. Jackie
