Hi Carole if you put in a search for Wigston frame work you will find a link to the museum where you can hear a recording of what a frame work knitting machine sounded like, have a whole host of rels in Leicester who were FWK's Elaine

Yes, it is Frame Work Knitter. There were a lot of them in Nottinghamshire. The abbreviation appears a lot on Nottinghamshire censuses. Kate.
