Morning Crista, Allenstein could be written wrongly when transcribed from Auenstein with the umlaut, ie the two dots being extensions of the u. Where did the transcriptions take place and when? good luck, Derek in France

She's on page 421, Christa. They've indexed her as first class, when she's travelling steerage.

Tübingen is located in southwest Germany in the State of Baden-Württemberg (Swabia) not far from the city of Stuttgart, and has about 80000 inhabitants Linda

I'll have a go at the other entry, Crista. sometimes, though, their referencing does seem to go astray.

Auenstein appears to be just south of Heilbronn, while Tubingen has a university. I'm not very good with internet maps, so I don't know how close they are to each other, but they do both exist.

Brenda, I don't know how the Ellis Island records work. There's another entry for Emma in 1896 but I can't find her listed on the manifests. There must be a problem with the indexing. Crista

Brenda, Found Auenstein and Tubingen on Multimap. One's north of Stuttgart and the other's south of Stuttgart. Crista

Crista Do you know how the information on the manifests was put together? It certainly doesn't look like Allenstein, but if the details were copied from another document by someone who didn't recognise the town, they could easily introduce a transcription error.

Crista

Crista Report 17 Apr 2005 23:34

Brenda, I don't think that applies to her. I think Tubingen must be correct although that website doesn't list it. Crista

Does the 'and Mrs Weidenbach' on the line below refer to her as well?

Brenda, I found this site that lets you search for German towns with wildcards. I put in A*enstein and the only real match is Allenstein but it doesn't look like that. http://www.kartenmeister.*com/preview/databaseuwe.asp Crista

Tubingen. Eckinger Str 18. They appear to give town before street. There's an umlaut (?) over the u.

Thanks for looking Carol. You only need to fill in info. with a * next to it when you register. You don't need to add a phone number. Crista

Auenstein or Avenstein? That second letter doesn't look like either a w m or n

Sorry, but it wont let me register. It wont accept a UK telephone number.

Here are the details: 1. Emma Oettinger Chicago, U.S.A. 1907 26 The image goes over 2 pages and starts on the previous page. It looks like she's going to join her mother Joh. Oettinger at 579 24th St. I think Joh. is short for Johanna. The bits are can't read are the town were she was born and her brother's address. Many thanks, Crista

Can someone take a look at the image for a Marie Oetttinger and let me know what you think it says?
