I totally agree with you Lin. I've sent so many corrections to Ancestry I'm sick of it. They of course take no notice whatsoever. Like you I've looked on the actual image and it is obvious what the word is but the transcription bears no resemblance at all. I really admire everyone that freely gives their time to do these transcriptions but a few of them need to be sacked. Jan :-)

Hats off to the transcribers on Ancestry.com and others who donate their time in doing what I can only describe as a mind boggling job - but On doing my usual look-ups on Ancestry on the Census I am speechless by some of the information transcribed ie: Tintagel is for some season in London although it does not say London. Westminster was spelt Nneeltstr Carpenter - became Pebble Maker Pianoforte Maker - Toy Maker Benjamin - Banjo to name but a few. To confirm this information I have read the original census and could quite clearly read the information that was infront of me - so then why oh why is this information being typed in without a care - if you can't read it don't just shove anything in what's the point. The majority of the transcribers are dedicated to the cause and yes some of the writing is hard to read, but please use your heads. what's the point of putting words in when they don't mean a thing in English -the word Transcribers should give a clue on what the game is all about. Thanks for reading Lin
