When all the administrative nightmares have been sorted out is there any way I can get to the person who is researching the Stuart family? Help!

Hi Jill
The membership nos is in fact Zoe who replies in the thread.Think this is one of those glitches that go back to when Genes did an update on the site and all sorts of wobblies got thrown Remember reading threads on General from peeps who had had PM,s sent in their names that wasnt anything to do with them
I have asked Genes to sort this one out as I object to my personal details being shown especially when nothing to do with me.

Hi there, I was really interested in your Stuarts enquiry and wondered whether our Stuarts might be the same. I'd love to hook up with others researching the same tree. I feel certain these ancestors are the ones on our tree.
I really hope this thread is still alive as otherwise I don't know how to contact those who are researching Stuarts on this thread. I'm still very new to this.

Bit of nicotine inspiration! There's a lady offering look ups at Colchester on another site so I've asked her whether she would mind trying to find Sarah's baptism. See whether I can establish whether the B stands for Beeston as a starting point!

Thanks Zoe Think I'll join you on the nicotine fix! I guess asking about a research service would be a good move. I've found them really helpful so far in getting copies of parish register entries and burial records Lou

Yep that's them in 61. Thomas Statton is the son of George Statton and Louisa formerly Poole. Richard married Louisa in Lewisham in Dec 1856 but by the 61 census she appears to have died. Can't quite work out Richard's marriages! He married Harriet Offord Phillips in 1811 when she was a minor. Harriet died in 1849 but isn't with Richard on the 41 census. He's with a 25 year old Betsey who I guess could be a daughter or a 2nd much younger wife but no idea where Harriet is! Lou

Stonehouse doesn't appear to have left a will which I did think was strange given that he was a Trinity Pilot and therefore a literate man. Maybe he had nothing to leave??? I only started to figure out the possible connection to the BEESTON name when someone found Sarah with Grace on the 41 and 51 for me earlier in the week so that's still very much in the fledgling stage of research. I can see a trip to Essex coming on...somehow can't see anyone offering to go to Colchester and plough through this little lot on my behalf! Lou

Zoe Thank you. Grace being illegitimate was one angle I hadn't even considered, nor that Grace's mother could have been a Stuart, and is certainly worth noting. It's become easier to track these people from 41 onwards now the census is indexed online but am still struggling with a marriage for Stonehouse and Elizabeth. The 1841 census states born in county for her, out of county for him. He is still alive in 51 and gives his birthplace as Sunderland, but she dies in 1847 so I have the entire county to consider! I know it's always a risk to 'lean' towards anything in this hobby but given that Elizabeth's grandson was given Beeston as his middle name, I'm hoping that's a clue to the name being connected to her. Although my 17 year old helpfully (not!) suggested last night that seeing as both Grace and Sarah never married and seemed to be together for at least a 10 year period, maybe longer, that she wasn't really her cousin at all but they were lovers! Thanks, Scott, that's helped! Lou

And they would live somewhere there are no filmed records on IGI and about 400 miles from where I live. Grrrrr!

I've got a few in my family where surnames are carried on through 3 or 4 generations. Usually only happens with first names though, not middle names.

Unknown

Unknown Report 6 May 2005 11:38

That doesn't seem to follow in this family which is a bit of a nightmare! Every generation has a child called Stonehouse somewhere but there's no pattern to who gets the name! I had originally thought that Henry's wife Sarah was a Beeston, hence the reason they called their child Stonehouse Beeston Stuart, but I received his birth cert a couple of days ago and her maiden name was Bell. None of their children have Bell as a middle name! Lou

Hi lou Don't know if it helps, but in my tree, ive found that the 1st born child has the middle name of the mothers maiden name. Julie

I think that Grace's father or mother could be related to Elizabeth, therefore she might be Beeston, but might not. It is highly likely though, given the two middle names of Stonehouse and Sarah.

Hi Maria That was a possibility that had crossed my mind as well but didn't want to get over excited and end up missing something obvious by 'assuming'!!! Lou

Hi Lou, the B in sarah could be for Beeston, as in keeping her mothers maiden name as well as fathers? Maria

Stonehouse Stuart marries Elizabeth ???? about 1788/89 Definite children located to date: Richard 1790 Henry 1792 Sarah B 1800 (no idea yet what the B stands for) 1841 and 1851 census shows Sarah with Grace Beeston, an Innkeeper, relationship in 51 given as COUSIN Grace never married so remained a Beeston till her death. To be cousins, they must have a parent who is a brother or sister to the other ones parent if my calculations are correct. Henry’s youngest child is named Stonehouse Beeston Stuart. If Grace’s father was Elizabeth’s brother, that would make Elizabeth’s maiden name Beeston. Have I worked that possible relationship out correctly?!!!!! Thanks
