It's always been a good site...Now even better. I still have an Isle of Wight family 'waiting in the wings' hoping for evidence to connect them to my family from Beaulieu.....a short rowing boat ride across the Solent. Gwyn |

Thats brilliant Linda well done to all the volunteers from the IOW FHS. I think we must be the only two members with ancestors from the island lol. Jenny |

Births, marriages and deaths now complete from 1837 to 2003 at the Isle of Wight Family History Society website. Indexes show in which sub-district the birth or death was registered (for older registrations). The birth index can also be searched using mother's maiden surname. Marriage registrations are searchable on either surname; the index shows husband's and wife's names and name of the church, if C of E. Good hunting. http://www.isle-of-wight-fhs.*co.uk/bmd/start.htm (remove the *) Linda :o) |

Jenny, I've only just seen your message this morning. We have a connection by marriage (my Charlotte Wells married your Edmund Dunford). I don't now have Edmund in my tree here after I did some pruning (!) and I don't have you in my contacts at the moment. I'll pm you so you can see my tree again. Linda :o) |

Luckily I had done a good bit of research while the wee'uns were wee, but then I must confess it went on the back burner for years. I am just glad I picked it up again a couple or three years ago. |

My Smiths are a little neglected at the moment! At least they're not too difficult, being from a fairly limited area but, as with several of my lines now, they will have to wait until I have more time available for researching parish records. Perhaps when all the children are grown up, LOL. I'm forever grateful to the IW FHS for their help from 1837 onwards. The cross-referencing of mother's maiden surname on all the births is invaluable. Glad you've made such interesting progress with the Langleys. Connections with William Penn and Elizabeth Fry - that brings back memories of Quaker Sunday School lessons! Linda :o) |

How are your Smiths Linda? By the way, did you know that my Langleys were incomers to the Island and came from around Stedham in West Sussex? I've now got them back to 1603 in Petworth. Links to Elizabeth Fry the Women's Prison Reformer, and to the House Stewards of William Penn in Pennsylavania. |

The Isle of Wight FHS site continues to update its online BMD indexes. Birth registrations are now available from 1837 up to 1936 and deaths to 1935; the indexes show in which sub-district the birth or death was registered. The birth index can also be searched using mother's maiden surname. Marriage registrations are complete from 1837 to 2000, searchable on either surname; the index shows husband's and wife's names and name of the church, if C of E.
