Hi Shelli Not really hon. I think I'm going to take a gamble and send for this cert for the birth registered in Stepney. I've always been a tad dubious about whether he was actually Edward and Mary's son given the age gap between Thomas and the next child (almost 14 years). Not impossible, I know, but suspect! I always had the suspicion that Thomas was born to one of the older Martin girls before she got married and Edward and Mary either passed him off as their son for respectability on the census or it was a mistake and should have said grandson. Given that all bar one of the Martin children ended up living, working and marrying in London, I'm wondering now whether one of the daughters was in service in London and had Thomas while she was there. The cert will answer it one way or another. In the meantime, I'm going to see whether I can track down a marriage between the 2 you found in 1881. Thanks again for your efforts last night Lou |
