Julia, thankyou. I think I might try to order it, but put his parents names down, that way it should narrow it down a bit. I use 1837 to order couldnt find him on there though. Thanks again Dot

All I could find was a birth on Ancestry for Samuel Taylor Taylor, Samuel Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1842 District: Barnstaple County: Devon Volume: 10 Page: 27 (click to see others on page) But Bridgerule is in the district of Holsworthy. You might be better off trying to find a baptism record instead, though it wouldn't give the mother's maiden name. Or try to find him with his parents in 1851 census?

Also, although 1871 has the wife transcribed as Fred (!) on the image it looks more like 'Fras', short for Frances? Living at 9 Russell St, if that helps at all.

Hi Dot, According to my map Bridgerule, Devon is just across the Cornwall County line, about 2-3 miles away from Marhamchurch. Couldn't find Copplestone (or whatever it was now!), but Sidwell, where he is living, (if it is him) is near Exeter.

You could try to find the people on censuses too to get a better idea of their ages before looking for births. Early marriage certs are rather disappointing - they often say 'of full age' instead of an exact age, they usually give the name of a village instead of a proper address and the bride is always a 'spinster' even though she was probably working. Not to mention all the fathers listed who are dead but not recorded as 'deceased' or the made up fathers in the case of illegitimate spouses! nell

Am looking for birth of Samuel Taylor born in Cornwall around the Marhamchurch area. Here's hoping. He married in 1865. Dot.

Over 21 but even if they were 40, it might still say full age. It doesn't mean they were aged exactly 21 Lou
