Have you looked on the 1891 census and see who Catherine is living with. What is her childs name and where was he born so we can all have a look. Margaret

It might help to find Thomas and Catherine in 1881 and 1891 to see if they are together. With such a long gap between marriage and a 1st child, I wonder if Thomas was actually the father. Did the child marry and if so was a father named on the certificate?

How old were they when they married please

Kate

Kate Report 27 Jun 2005 09:21

Presumably Thomas Hodgetts was not the father and Catherine was not married to the father so was not allowed to put his name on the birth cert. If you can find a marriage for the child you mention and get the cert, then he or she may possibly give his or her father's name on the marriage cert? Kate.

Sorry, I 'updated' my reply just as you were adding yours! So in case you didn't see my addition, I suggested if you can find a marriage for the child you mention and get his / her marriage certificate, it may give his / her father's name on there. But now I see your reply, I am confused. You say their first child was born in 1890, but in your reply you say they had a child in 1880. Do you have birth certs for the other children apart from Henrietta, and if so, is Thomas named as the father on any of them? Kate.

SORRY KATE I AM CONFUSING EVERYONE I ONLY HAVE THE BIRTH CERT OF MY MU AND ON THAT IT SAYS HER MOTHER IS HENRETTA BARLOW (MARRIED NAME) FORMERLY KNOWN AS MOULDING .ON FREE BMD ALL CATHERINES CHILDREN ARE HODGETTS BUT LIVING RELATIVES HAD ALWAYS KNOWN THE FAMILY NAME AS MOULDING . I SUPPOSE THEY WERE REGISTERED HODGETTS AS I DONT THINK CATHERINE AND JOHN MOULDING EVER MARRIED. BUT MUST HAVE TAKEN HIS NAME. IF I SEND OFF FOR A BIRTH CERT FOR MY GRANDMA WHAT INFO WOULD I NEED I DONT KNOW WHO THE FATHER IS DOES THAT MATTER AND HOW CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT THOMAS HODGETTS THANKS LINDA X
