Yeah you need someone to look at the actual page of the census or look for them on 1891 census ,probably say son then Deborah

Robyne Report 14 Jul 2005 16:08

Deborah Report 14 Jul 2005 16:01

Sorry meant this was Ellens parents ,these are the same family from 1861 census ,wife born in Percy Main. They would be your Grandads great grandparents. This is a possible marriage for them Marriages Dec 1856 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- English Ellenor Tynemouth 10b 283 Nicholson Robert Tynemouth 10b 283 Would explain why she was Ellen in one census and Eleanor in the 1881 Deborah

Thanks for looking Deborah. Unfortunatley if Ellen was listed under her maiden name she would be the daughter not the wife, as her married name was Elliott thanks for looking though, it all comes in helpful one way or another

Thanks Christine for all of that. I have no idea about Scottish relatives at all. Before i started the tree we had no idea about even my mums grandparents so this is all very new and exciting. Im happy to accept any areas at the moment because they could all be plausible

It's tempting to think there might be a connection with Wemyss Bay area, on the coast, west of Glasgow. Any Scots in the family? Christine

This is the local site for Newcastle: http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/registrars.nsf/a/homepage?opendocument This is the NE England site: http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/ which has links to the various regions. Not all have searchable stuff online (e.g. Gateshead). I wonder where the Wemyes came from then? I should hopefully have the marriage cert today or tomorrow so that will be good

There's this Ellen from 1861: Ellen Nicholson abt 1833 Percy Main, Northumberland, England Wife Tynemouth Northumberland Ellen Nicholson abt 1859 No Shields, Northumberland, England Daughter Tynemouth Northumberland Robert Nicholson abt 1829 No Shields, Northumberland, England Head Tynemouth Northumberland Robert Nicholson abt 1860 No Shields, Northumberland, England Son Tynemouth Northumberland She's the nearest in age and place to what you need (North Shields, 6 miles from Newcastle)!! Maybe if you get the marriage cert or PR entry the father will turn out to be Robert, a blacksmith? Sarah

Christine that sounds like a great idea, how do i get that and also which BMD website did you use?

Christine in Herts

Christine in Herts Report 14 Jul 2005 15:19

Incidentally - that marriage is on the Newcastle BMD site: 1879 ELLIOT William St Michael with St Lawrence, Byker 1879 NICHOLSON Ellen W St Michael with St Lawrence, Byker So if you can find out where there are copies of the Parish Registers of St Michael with St Lawrence Church, Byker, you get the info you need for less than £1 instead of £7, and you'd get to see a copy of your ancestor's handwriting. I'm slightly confused - in 1881 the child is a girl, but in 1891, it's a boy lol

I hope this makes sense! I am trying to find my g'dads grandparents and am struggling. the info i have so far is 1891 - Yorkshire Christopher Elliott b 1880 son (my g'grandad) Dad - William Elliott b 1853 Gateshead Mum - Ellen Elliott b 1860 Newcastle plus other family too I have their wedding info - March 1879 William Elliott and Ellen Wemyes Nicholson I know that is the right william and ellen because Christophers name is Christopher Wemyes Elliott and my mum recognised the name Wemyes. I can not find them in the 1881 census and i def cant find Ellen anywhere previous to the marriage. Can someone help please?

Other people's 'mos' always seem longer than one's own, don't you think! I did this once and took ages to get my info in. Christine
