Punnet maker? I always assumed it was making the little baskets you put fruit in - like now, you buy a punnet of strawberries dont you?

You're welcome, I wondered what that occ was??

Yes you are right Sam (told you I have no brain). That must be Jane Foalster dying in 1891, right place, name and age. So this lot must be a shacked up job then. Sam, Im sure thats them, I just been looking at the image and it says Ellen (myGGM) is a punnet maker. That was her occupation on her marriage certificate. Well done! Gwynn - no Foalsters or Goddards on cert.

When Ellen married, did Jane sign as a witness and if so, -in what name?

Smiley Report 19 Jul 2005 09:18

Richard jnr b1859 was actually Frederick Richard Foalster If that's a possible re-marriage for Jane, maybe she just took on the Goddard name because she died as a Foalster didn't she, so a re-match rather than a re-marriage :)

I was thinking that, Jess. re. Brentford deaths. You don't think Frederick could be Richard, ( Fred the Bread) - Sorry that's the Welsh half of my brain thinking there!

Jess, that lot in Brentford are the bros and sisters and early deaths I think. Yep, George is my GGF!! He lived to 84 and then they had a post mortem because of his sudden death!!!

Sam - yes a possibility! A possible remarriage for Jane (though 7 years knocked off her age??). Bless you, I will follow that one. I had looked at Fosters, but of course, Foalster, could very easily sound like Forster. Thanks so much.

The Bag Report 19 Jul 2005 09:10

That is odd, in ancestry BMD every single entry for Foalster is Brentford - no where else at all! Yet not the right flippin names!! Hang On - possibly Ellens marriage ( DOH! you knew THAT!!) CHEAL, George Robert 1872 September Marriages Brentford Middlesex FOALSTER, Ellen 1872 September Marriages Brentford Middlesex Padgett, Charles Edward 1872 September Marriages Brentford Middlesex

Thanks Carol, looks like my alternative to a dead end is a erm, dead end. I thought Foster was a likely mistranscription, but had no luck there either.

Do you have the marriage certificate for Richard and Jane? If so, what are their fathers' names and occupations and who were the witnesses. This might help to track down their birth/ birthplace.

Having come to dead ends I have taken my own advice and gone back over my tree looking for new leads this morning. I am looking at GGPx2 - Richard Foalster (a Baker) and Jane Snell both born c1821. I can find them marrying in 1839 in Brentford, Middlesex. I can find them on the 1861. I can find Jane Foalster (Snell) dying Brentford,1891 aged 69. Can anyone see them in the 1871 or 1881 please? Or Richards death. I have his daughter's marriage cert (Ellen) 1872 and it gives father as Richard, baker, deceased They are both shown as place of birth not known in the 1861. And Id like to know where they are from!
