is there any other way of finding parents?

after a long complicated search, and a lot of help from the kind folks on here, I have been able to trace my great great grandmother (Heva Hazledine Hughes) back to the 1861 census. On the 1871 census she is living with her ?sister Mary Ann Hughes and their Aunt, Eleanor Waldron. IN 1861 she is living with her Grand parents Thomas and Mary A Hughes, along with her Aunt and sister. She is on this census as Hena HH Hughes. She was born around 1854 and there seem to be several 'spellings' of her name throughout the years - Eva, Kerza, Hena, Heva! I don't seem able to find her birth and therefore can't find her parents. Is there any other way of finding them without a birth cert? I am guessing they died, but could anything else have happend to them? I am not sure whether Mary Ann is her sister or maybe her cousin. I have found her birth, shall I take the risk and send for her birth cert? (funds very limited, trying not to waste it, but might have to!) Thanks for looking!

I would order the certificate if it is near a census date then you can check the address on the birth certificate which may give you the lead you need. You can also check the marriage of the 2 people that will be mentioned as parents. Good Luck Irene

mmmm, yes I think you are right Gloria. I just checked the same detail, and no sign of Heva. Thanks anyway. What's GEDCOM (sorry for the ignorance, but still a relative newbie!)

forgot to say, in 1861 they were living in Birmingham. But Thomas (Heva's grandfather) was born in Dilwyn, herefordshire.

Mandy, Where have you looked for the birth? FreeBMD isn't complete for 1853/1854 so you will need to use 1837online. Crista
