Thanks for that Christine, im guessing this isn't going to be a easy one to solve. Im going to stay at my mums sisters soon, im told she has a suitcase containing some papers of their father so hopefully i might find some answers there. All the other sibling of Hugh & Jane were born & lived in Hollyhead, Anglesey other than my mums father, who on leaving the army lived in Liverpool ( next street to were his parents lived when they got married), so there's a good concection to both places. Thanks for all your help. Julie

Just to add to the mixture - 1901 Wales has a Jane Pritchard, born 1892, Liverpool with grandmother Jane Williams in Anglesey. I'm not saying it's the right one mind

Christine & Judith Thanks to both of you, thats a good match, age is slightly out but as you stated maybe he lied regarding his age. Julie

Snap Christine! They look a good possiblilty - father's name and sister's name match. Slight variation in age could be because Hugh Owen didn't want to admit to being younger than his wife.

Julie, Have you done a quick name search on this site to see if anyone is coming from another direction of the same families..??? on either name??? Kay,

Christine

Christine Report 29 Jul 2005 11:10

Just looked at 1891 Wales for Hugh Owen - his father on that census is Edward, so discount that one then! DOH! Just checked my maths! Hugh would have been born c 1891, not 81/2 as in 1901 -- double DOH Ignore earlier census

Jane would be about 14 in 1901, so I did a search on the index for Jane Pritchard 14 +/- a year: I think going on the addresses you have that she would have been born in North Wales or on the English side of the North Wales border, so I whittled it down to: Jane Pritchard 13 Anglesey Hoghead Anglesey Holyhead Jane Pritchard 13 Carnarvon Carnarvon Carnarvon Llanbeblig Jane Pritchard 13 Lancashire Royton Lancashire Colne Jane Pritchard 13 Lancs Liverpool Everton Scholar Jane Pritchard 14 Anglesey Wales Domestic Serv Jane Pritchard 14 Carnarvon Colwyn Carnarvon Llysfaen Jane Pritchard 14 Carnarvon Dolwyddelan Carnarvonshire Dolwyddelan Jane Pritchard 14 Lanc Salford Lancaster Salford Domestic Servant Jane Pritchard 14 Lancs Manchester Lancaster Preston Ring Spinner Cotton Jane Pritchard 14 Merioneth Llanfrothen Merioneth Llanfrothen Domestic Servant Jane Pritchard 15 Carmarthen Llandeusant Breconshire Trianglas In School Jane Pritchard 15 Carnarvonshire Pentir Carnarvonshire Pentir Jane Pritchard 15 Llanddeiniolen Carnarvon Bettws Garmon Servant Jane Pritchard 15 Rhiwlas Carnarvon Llandegai Servant Domestic But the problem is of course that you don't know which of these Janes is yours, as the ones in service are probably living in. There are also too many Thomas Pritchards to do a search without an age or area. Do you have any idea about Jane/Hugh's siblings? nell
